UFO&PSI Glossary: S

Glossary comes from latin "glossarium, glossa" (foreign word), and is in fact a list of often difficult-to-understand words followed by their definitions. An encyclopedia of any kind cannot be considered complete without providing a comprehensive glossary.

S.A.M.: Surface-to-Air Missile or Special Air Mission.

Santilli Footage: lot of aged Kodak films (15 of 10 minutes or 22 of 3 minues each) documenting three "alien autopsies" (two autopsies of a similar being, one Tent movie is faked), and one more showing debris. The rest contained undefined materials that were judged as not good enough for being sold.

Santilli, Ray: video producer who bought and sold in 1995 the famous "Santilli Footage" to a lot of worldwide televisions.

Sassalbo Project: starting from an enigmatic sighting at Sassalbo, Italy, a team of scientists still satudies what still happens there.

Secret: the action of limiting access to an information. It is a security measure that has no effect on the contents of an information. The main aim is to protect the contents and the source of information. USA has five layers of secrecy: Top Secret, Secret, Confidential, Restricted, Unclassified.

SEPRA: Service d'Expertise des Phénomènes de Rentrée Atmospherique". It took the place in 1989 of the GEPAN.

SETI: Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, the international scientific project for the radioastronomical search for extra-terrestrial civilizations, renamed HRMS in 1953.

SIOS: in Italian, "Servizio Informazioni Operativo e Situazione Interna dello Stato Maggiore Difesa italiano". It defends the interest of militar investigations on UFOs, coordinated by Italy's "2º Reparto dello Stato Maggiore dell'Aeronautica at the Stato Maggiore della Difesa".

SOBEPS: Société Belge d'Etude des Phénomènes Spatiaux, the most important private centre for UFO studies in Belgium.

S.O.P.: Special Operation Procedure. Such S.O.P. are mentioned in MJ-12 files, specifically SOM-01, describing the procedure to follow in case of UFO crash.

Space archeology: all archeology-related enigmas appearently linked to supposed alien visits in our past. It's more correctly called "paleoastronautics ".

S.T.O.L.: Short Take-Off and Landing. It describes all flying vehicles able to take off and land within a short distance, like the V-173.

Sylphs: celestial creatures known as Cherubins, who are not immortal. Their name comes from the Greek "silphe", meaning "butterfly" or "moth."
