Movies: Stargate
The following is a movie I've watched and reviewed. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not selling DVDs. This is not a list of movies that tell you "the truth about UFOs". Simply said, I like movies. Each review is as simple and non technical as possible.

Description: During an archeological expedition in the '20s, an ancient artifact is found in Egypt. US military hide the ring in a base and scientists secretly study it, without much success. They are struggling to find out what it is. Years later, Doctor Daniel Jackson, an expert in ancient languages who's rather laughed by the whole scientific community, is hired to help translating the symbols and finally understands what the artifact is: a stargate with coordinates to another star system! You need six symbols to activate it, and they do. With the support of a special rescue team lead by Jack O’Neil, reintegrated into service after he shot his son. They travel through the stargate and end up ina desert-like planet, with Egyptian artifacts, an enslaved tribe and the Sun God Ra who just returns soon after. The crew now must save themselves, free the poor tribe and go back to Earth, closing the stargate.
Stargate is basically a good idea that hasn't been developed enough. The beginnig is rather good, though. As the stargate tunnel animation. Beyond that, all the action takes place in a desert, while Ra himself is just a boy. How intimidating! What if they tried a different combination of symbols? There isn't much explanation about pyramids or about other Gods like Ra neither. In the movie, we see an alien who takes a human as a host (how?), while in the later TV series it is a big "worm". While the costumes look good (the eagle masks), overall, it also looks like Egyptomania!
About the characters: we are not given the possibility to know them more. O'Neil is the typical rude, heroic US soldier, Jackson the dully scientist. The tribe speaks a language we don't know whether it is a dialect or what else.
