Movies: Hulk

The following is a movie I've watched and reviewed. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not selling DVDs. This is not a list of movies that tell you "the truth about UFOs". Simply said, I like movies. Each review is as simple and non technical as possible.

Description: scientist Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) has, to put it mildly, anger management issues. His quiet life as a brilliant researcher working with cutting edge genetic technology conceals a nearly forgotten and painful past. His ex-girlfriend and equally brilliant fellow researcher, Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly), has tired of Bruce's cordoned off emotional terrain and resigns herself to remaining an interested onlooker to his quiet life. Which is exactly where Betty finds herself during one of the early trials in Banner's groundbreaking research. A simple oversight leads to an explosive situation and Bruce makes a split-second decision; his heroic impulse saves a life and leaves him apparently unscathed-his body absorbing a normally deadly dose of gamma radiation.

This is another comics ported to movie. Visually speaking, it is brilliant: Ang Lee uses the language of comics and of art, adding beauty to the movie. The story around Hulk isn't the same as in the Marvel comics, as it's been updated a little bit to our days. I don't mind it at all.

Now, let's talk about Hulk: in relationship with Lou Ferrigno's 1970s performance, this Hulk is really too big, too wild, too strong: c'mon, Hulk throwing a tank with the ease of a towel and jumping Kilometers away! I even find his green skin too strong.

Beyond these details, the movie remains good. We are not only shown a violent monster, but someone with anger managent issues due to his past and his father. The Hulk is as violent as innocent: the rage makes him strong and dangerous, but, at the same time, he is in vulnerable. Shortly, Hulk is victim of something he cannot remember and becomes so wild when he's attacked. His love for Betty shows this: Hulk fights the monster dog to protect her, she's the one able to calm him. Somehow Betty can control Hulk.

Furthermore, the movie is about frontline genetics, biology and how the shameless manipulations can create troubles.
