Movies: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

The following is a movie I've watched and reviewed. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not selling DVDs. This is not a list of movies that tell you "the truth about UFOs". Simply said, I like movies. Each review is as simple and non technical as possible.

Description: when an alien (E.T.) is inadvertently left behind on earth, he finds refuge with youngster Elliot (Henry Thomas). As Elliot and E.T. bond as friends, it soon becomes clear that E.T. must find his way home before government officials capture him for study. Together, E.T., Elliot and Elliot's family and friends help reunite E.T. with his spaceship.

A film of unequaled beauty and warmth that the director has never been able to conjure up again. The big screen is where this picture belongs. The jokes still hold up, the magic still seems real, and that ugly little title character can still make you weep. But now, the heartbreaking themes of divorce are perceptible where they weren't before. The friendship between Elliot and E.T. seems more urgent and genuine, and the aforementioned Barrymore is a cuteness bomb that could decimate entire cities compared to today's "Village Of The Damned" child actors. E.T. is an even more emotionally rewarding and fundamentally entertaining experience.

Conceived by Carlo Rambaldi, E.T.'s look is unique and very different from any alien rendered in Hollywood productions. Overall, E.T. is a fairy tale for our modern times.

I should mention the latest DVd edition has been enhaced with CGI, to enhace E.T.'s facial features. Some have criticized this, and I understand them: the movie is good as it was.
