Movies: The Day The Earth Stood Still
The following is a movie I've watched and reviewed. Contrary to popular belief, I'm not selling DVDs. This is not a list of movies that tell you "the truth about UFOs". Simply said, I like movies. Each review is as simple and non technical as possible.

Description: when I say I love '50s sci-fi, I do like this movie.1951, USA: a flying saucer lands in Washinghton. A spaceman comes out of it, Klaatu, followed by a robot, Gort. He is here to warn against our violent behaviours. Astounded crowds and wary militars watch it, as the spaceman handles an object. Thinking it is a weapon, a soldier shoots the alien. Smacked down by the hit, the robot's defensive reaction to protect his chief deploys a beam that melts armors and weapons. The alien is brought to a military hospital and quickly regains health. Speaking to the US vicepresident, Klaatu reveals he's here to speak in front of every world leader. Unfortunately, the vicepresident admits times makes that impossible. Klaatu manages to escape and take a businessman suit. Under the nickname of Carpenter, he observes our society and finds a room rental to stay.
I've bought this DVD in 2004, having often heard about it but never saw it for sale. Probably, it's been the beginning of my love for '50s sci-fi. The movie contains religious elements: Klaatu as a neo Christ who sacrifices and resurrects for mankind, Gort holding power over life and death. The year 1951 is a post war period, in which the atomic bomb was a true US power. I can see an ante litteram contactee story, with Klaatu as the handsome peaceful space brother, worried about our wary attitudes.
