Despite being enmeshed in a culture steeped in technology and science, the magic and mysteries of the ancient world can still haunt our imagination. Through their architecture, artefacts and deeds, ancient cultures speak to us across thousands of dusty years-from the labyrinthine palace of Knossos on Crete and the lofty pyramids of Egypt to the remotest jungle temples of Peru and the megalithic mystery of Stonehenge.

Brian Haughton's new book Hidden History brings together a fascinating selection of these ancient enigmas, arranged into three sections: Mysterious Places, Unexplained Artefacts, and Enigmatic People.

In the past I complained about the lack of serious and documented references regarding alternative archeology and clypeology. Even worse, I've stumbled upon many poor books. Regarding space archeology, books and web sites seem to be cross quoting each other, repeating the same old stories and always failing to prove their claims. The wait is over: Hidden History is the reference I was waiting for, and New Page Books delivers us a great book. Haughton is an archeologist from Nottingham (B.A. in Archaeology) and Birmingham (M. Phil in Greek Archaeology) Universities, therefore he holds the necessary know-how. Among the topics covered in the book, we find popular mysteries such as the Antikythera Mechanism, the Baghdad Battery and the Coso Artifact. For each article, Haughton makes the point regarding the origins and the theories. He does it with common sense, never forgetting his academic knowledge. A must read!
