Born in 1927 in Kansas, Bennewitz founds the Thunder Scientific Corporation, a company that works for Kirtland Base. Radio technician, amateur ufologist, during the 1970s he meets a woman who claims to have been abducted by aliens. This marks him deeply and convinces him about the reality of UFOs, cattle mutilations and implants. Convinced there is alien activity around the Kirtland military base, near Albuquerque, he tries to detect alien signals with the help of ad hoc instruments for the APRO.
In 1985 he is at a Psychiatric Hospital. Following William Moore, Bennewitz' radio activities attract the attention of the Kirtland military, worried he could have decoded classified communications. From his point of view, Bennewitz thinks this is a sign the USA military has relationships with aliens... thus generating that pessimistic, folkloristic scenario made of evil Grays. Moore believes the AFOSI favors his crazy ideas to let Bennewith debunk himself.
It's interesting to add that probably Moore himself has had a role in this campaign of disinformation, in which Bennewitz is a victim, with the help of Jaime Shandera and their sources Robert Collins and Richard Doty.
